Yesterday I lost my cool with this lady. Ugly yelled. I could see the pain I was inflicting in her sad eyes with every word that left my mouth. We were in the car, so she sat down, we buckled in and drove away. My mind was replaying it all and I wished I could rewind and do it all over again. She then pipes up from the backseat, "Hey Mom? You are SO sweet." I might be thirty years older than her but she was the one teaching me about what real love is. Blessing when cursed, believing the best in someone even at their worst. I am embarrassed that ugliness was manifested inside of me but I am so thankful for the ways He brings them out into the open, to bring light into the dark places within myself. Jesus is covering the ugliness and the shame of my sin, and instead of seeing what I am, He sees what I am becoming. I want to see like that. Like she does. And today is a new day to try again.

"Don’t for a minute let my Word be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you will get where you are going, then you will succeed. Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid and don’t get discouraged. I am your God, and I will be with you every step you take." - Joshua 1:8-9

I am proclaiming 2017 as the year that motherhood is enough for me. This is my mission. I've listened to the voice of the world tell me for too long that I can be more/need more/have more. I declare now that this life I have been given, this great responsibility of tending souls that I have been entrusted to, is enough and it is not just good, it is the best thing.
Then Jesus said to her, “If you wish to follow Me as My disciple, you must deny yourself and set aside selfish interests. You must take up your cross and express a willingness to endure whatever may come. You must follow Me by believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me. For she who wishes to save her life in this world will eventually lose it through death, but she who loses her life in this world for My sake will find life with Me for all eternity. For what will it profit you if you gain the whole world - wealth, fame, success - but you forfeit your soul? What will you give in exchange for your soul?” - Matthew 16:24-26‬ ‭

I found this book today on our bookshelf - I have no recollection of where it came from but it is a treasure of beautiful Christmas poems by Helen Steiner Rice. A gift from above...Merry Christmas today and everyday. 🌟

Even on the worst of days beauty presents itself in innumerable ways. Tears coexist with laughter. Sorrow with hope.

Going through my VSCO feed and reliving some beautiful moments from the past couple of years. I'm terrible at keeping up with personal photos but I am glad I have a stash of favorites somewhere. Even if they are only phone snaps. Someday I will find the time...I keep telling myself that anyway.

If we are free from the burden of trying to be completely original, we can stop trying to make something out of nothing, and we can embrace influence instead of running away from it. - Austin Kleon ✨

"Creativity removed from shame looks like childlikeness— fundamentally fun. It’s motivated by discovery rather than perfection. When perfection isn’t the prerequisite for creativity, the entire process has purpose, not just the final product. Through this lens, every experience yields goodness. Even failure becomes a reason for celebration. Learning is growing. As we create under the gaze of His unwavering acceptance, we, too are being made in the making." - @brettleyruggles (thank you for sharing this truth!)

My kids inspire me in so many ways. They remind me to live freely and to take the time to play. It can be a hard thing to do some days when the responsibilities are piled high and the weight of life is heavy. They are so good about making time for the things that bring them joy, why has it become so hard to do that as I have gotten older? Funny, I am supposed to teach them, yet they often times are the ones teaching me.

"I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce fruit, when you mature as my disciples.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭15:5-8‬ ‭
